It certainly looks like a spindle and that might be a very good guess: many Kostenki-Avdeevo female figurines show depictions of what looks like items of clothing. Some specialists believe that Paleolithic people may have already mastered the ability to weave plant fibers into cloth, rope, nets and baskets -- a skill long thought to have arisen much later.
